Brian awarded DRCLAS Faculty Grant

Brian has been awarded funding from DRCLAS to research "The evolutionary history and timing of the Tetraopes beetle diversification in Mesoamerica." Congratulations to Brian and to Sang Il, who will be collaborating on this!

Sang Il awarded Coleopterists Society GSREA!

Congratulations to Sang Il Kim, awarded the Graduate Student Research Enhancement Award (Program Award) from The Coleopterists Society for his project, "Target enrichment phylogenomics of longhorned beetle genus Anoplophora Hope, 1839 (Cerambycidae: Lamiinae) with emphasis on their adaptation to the temperate zone."

On May 21, Brian presented "Everything we touch, touches us back: Culture, Biology, and Health." 

We are shaped by an immensely long evolutionary history living in nature as a social species, a million years of days spent with family and clan in a struggle against the weather, predators, hunger and enemies. Even our values of good and evil, including the Golden Rule, may have been shaped by how we treat others and our environment.

Alyssa & Sang Il awarded Certificates of Distinction and Excellence in Teaching

The Derek Bok Center for Teaching and Learning has announced the recipients of their Fall 2019 teaching awards. We are pleased to learn that both Alyssa Hernandez and Sang Il Kim have been awarded Certificates of Distinction and Excellence in Teaching.

Alyssa was awarded as a Teaching Fellow for OEB 10: Foundations of Biological Diversity

Sang Il was awarded as a Teaching Fellow for OEB 275R: Phylogenetics and Phylogeography in the Era of Genomics.
